Whats wrong with people and the points?!

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 29, 2014, 5:11 AM

I have no idea if anyone else has noticed that, but did you also notice that the price vs art relatives did drop down a way too much too?
For example these days nearly none wants you to pay for art with real money, or when you offer something for points everyone wants the stuff for 100:points: or less which is just a few cents!
Seriously I find that crappy of people. Either they are not really rich or they are little kids not knowing what work is worth. Someone who works on an image for some days, should get at least 20$ or more for their painting, or if it is a really good painting with background, shading etc and good skills it would be worth much more.
But um, yeah people more like to spend 70$ and more for random adoptables or custom character flats from famous artists.
They would go cheaper when they search for a good skilled artist who is not famous LOL but that´s just my 2 cents.
What I mean is, let's have a look at the many small icons people do commissions for.
Um 10 points for an animated icon? LOL that´s just 10 cents, so in € cent it would maybe be 1 or 2 € cent you would earn in reality after paying paypal fees.
I think when they are made good they are worth 100 - 200 points, or when they are animated 200 - 500 points, depending on how and what the characters are.
The newcomers who offer those commissions are underpricing themselves and also ruin the prices for other people too.
Just my opinion :-/

I think anything under $10 or 1000 points is underselling regardless of skill.

And I think points are silly, even ridiculous.
I use actual USD or if someone insists or prefers points I will go out of my way to buy the damn things but generally I don't like to even mess with points.

I wish I could say that from my side too. I don´t have money which I could spend on random art stuff and premium membership, but yeah you are right, they are underpricing themselves.
But when you sell art above 100 points, for example icons or adoptables, none buys them when you are not one of those top artists.

I agree so much.
It really hacks me off that people wont pay anything for art but will pay anything for adopts to be honest.
I know work goes into them and not complaining about the creator, but I don't understand why the people buying them would rather invest money in a character to add to their hoards of hundreds than really nice art of an OC they are attatched to. s:

Oh yes you are so right
I also have some adopts, but I also prefer to pay people for making good and pretty art of them and my other chars which I also show on my front page. They deserve a feature.
I also think selling adoptables is ok, but 50 - 60$ for one char from a mass palette where the same lineart is used and it is not even unique? Man that is insane :faint:

I do agree with you however it's  I find that even though adults mostly use this site I end up frequenting people that tend to be younger. That's usually between the ages of 13-16 which I don't believe a sense of currency is established in most young people. I do understand the people that don't really have the money either. Where I live the cost of living vs. spending money is rather imbalanced. It is very hard for someone with an average job to live on their own with how much they get paid.

Here it is the same. Everything I earn I basically put in my bills and other stuff to create new stuff I can sell to pay off bills, so nearly never, really NEVER I have some money left to buy myself something I really can afford which sucks.
It makes me sad that it is fact many people don´t want to pay artists these day because we also need to live from something.
I understand you people being dependent of their parents and ask them for money, or they could at least sell adoptable which they have made and get points on this way. Seriously, that´s the way how I earn myself something here. I never used to waste my money on DA points LOL and I have the luck that I sell quite much because my quality is good, but still my adopts are worth more than I am asking for them, yet I can´t ask what they are worth because none wants to buy them then because I am not famous and have 10000 watchers and as many people interested in those designs. But I am not such a long-life member on here either which is a major point I guess.

Well I understand that too I pay quite a bit of bills myself or end up using my money on my partner. However I believe a lot of people don't know how to design a character or know what to make of an adopt. I know it's as simple as doing this or that but I see a lot of character designs that are over complicated and they want a lot of points for characters with a bunch of colors or intricate designs. I can understand a few but for an example would be a sparkle dog. There is to much going on with one character that anyone wants to put up with. I see a lot of people spamming these kinds of adopts as well with different types of animals.

True, yeah some adopts are quite costy because they are also very unique and have a complicated design.
Which makes me mad is when someone just makes over-high prices only because they have one million of watchers and are famous.
Their art is not better than those of a LOT of other people here.
